Keeping Safe Online

At YouTube, we believe that education is critically important to help you stay safe online. We're excited to see the new ACMA Cybersmart website: it is full of information for all kinds of people about staying safe online. Check it out and tell your friends!

This is a good opportunity for a refresher in YouTube features that enable safer online behaviour.

Did you know that you can manage your experience on YouTube by:

  • uploading videos as “Private” to be shared with specified family and friends
  • blocking specific users from interacting with you
  • choosing to allow only your “friends” to communicate with you
  • choosing to pre-screen comments
  • choosing to disable commenting altogether for each of your videos
  • choosing to filter the comments you see.
Remember, you can always contact YouTube directly with privacy, harassment, or bullying complaints through the Help & Safety Tool. And make sure you flag any video that you think doesn't comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.

The YouTube Safety Centre contains great information on cyber citizenship, privacy, cyber bullying, spam and phishing and much more.

Wishing you happy and safe travels around YouTube!

HELP

YouTube disabled my account (http://www.youtube.com/user/johnxxx20000) – that was a profitable one for YouTube and a faithful one, only artistic, with no pornography and no violence –, for very bad reasons: some company (Bourne Co. Music Publishers) arguing that I infringed their copyright, which is false: only the song in the concerned clip ("Rosemary Clooney Tribute", that was on YouTube since a year!) was maybe copyrighted, then why not mute the music? But all the rest in this clip did not belong to these people!

The way YouTube acts against those who contribute to their success (my account had 4 millions visitors) is not very fair nor acceptable. Why can't I have my other videos (342), all my contacts and messages saved? It's a disaster! How can one delete an account like that? It's very violent. Is it normal, when my friends are trying to watch any of my other videos, to see the message "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation."? It's a shame! What use violation is it about? Why don't YouTube distinguish between copyright infringers and personal creations (I never posted any film or show, making only personal montages)!
Don't they think that another policy is urgently necessary?

And don't they think that when most of the so-called copyrighted material is gone then YouTube will be
gone? I don't envision many people being interested in watching videos
of 11-year-olds jumping up and down on their beds while lip-syncing some stupid song, or showing their behind and doing other foolish things...

Therefore, I asked YouTube to reopen and restore my account, it won't cost them anything, on contrary, and it will show that they respect the work of the real YouTubers.

Thank you for your support!
